Separate lane on DND Flyway for commuters going from Delhi to Noida

Jersey barriers have been placed on the Noida side from the toll plaza to streamline traffic going from South Delhi to Mayur Vihar, Noida’s Sector 16 and Greater Noida.

The Noida authority, with the help of traffic police, has made a separate lane for motorists going from Delhi to Noida via Delhi-Noida Direct (DND) Flyway to ease traffic congestion on the route. Jersey barriers have been placed on the Noida side from the toll plaza to streamline traffic going from South Delhi to Mayur Vihar, Noida’s Sector 16 and Greater Noida.

There are two loops on the left side on the DND Flyway after crossing the toll plaza towards Noida side. The first loop leads towards the office of senior superintendent of police in Sector 14-A and Mayur Vihar ahead. The second loop connects to the Film City road on the opposite side, leading to Greater Noida. Motorists driving straight can go to Noida Sector 16. In many cases, the commuters get confused and take the wrong routes, which slows down vehicular movement on the stretch.

The Noida authority recently hired a consultant to conduct a study on the route. Following this, they decided to reserve the right lane for traffic coming from Delhi’s Maharani Bagh to Noida Sector 16 and beyond. Authorities have placed crash barriers on 500-metre stretch to make a separate lane for the commuters heading to Sector 16. People going to Mayur Vihar and Greater Noida are not to use this lane. If commuters take the reserved lane, they will not be able to take any of the two loops for Mayur Vihar and Greater Noida.

Authority officials said that commuters who come in the extreme right lane by mistake need to take a U-turn near Rajnigandha Chowk and then reach Film City road near Sector 16 A to go towards Greater Noida.

A spot visit by HT on Sunday showed that some vehicles had hit the plastic crash barriers, scattering them on the road, obstructing the vehicular movement.

Anil Kumar Jha, superintendent of police (traffic), Gautam Budh Nagar, said that this is a new experiment. “Noida authority and traffic police have reserved one lane for commuters going straight towards Sector 16. We have also placed some informatory banners to raise commuters awareness. In the next 10 days, people will get accustomed to the separate routes for smooth commuting,” he said.

Commuters are not so happy with the development. Sanjeev Kumar, a resident of Sector 51, said that Noida the authority and traffic police should create adequate awareness before implementing the new route. “They should place big sign boards, clearly informing the three routes. It could be unsafe for commuters to drive without proper awareness as the vehicles may hit the divider,” he said.
