Water toxic, handpumps painted red

July 13, 2019

NOIDA: Municipality officials in Dadri on Friday painted 14 handpumps red, prohibiting people from using them.

Officials warned the villagers that the since the groundwater levels have dropped considerably, the water in these handpumps are not potable and unfit for use. The exercise was carried out as part of a communicable disease control campaign.

Officials said that there are more than 200 such handpumps in Dadri area, where water has turned unfit for human consumption. A report on such handpumps will be sent to the health department for testing of water samples, they added.

“The individual connections are in thousands and it will take us some time to check them all,” said S K Kashyap, executive engineer, Dadri municipality.
